Dr. Juanita Ulloa

“an elfin woman with an outsized voice!”

– Leo Stutzin, Modesto Bee, California

Dr. Juanita Ulloa is passionately devoted to sharing the unparalleled beauty and diversity of all vocal music, but especially songs from Mexico and Latin America, where she grew up. She sings the most challenging ranchera song repertoire (mariachi) from Mexico, boleros, general folklore, her own vocal/piano or vocal/mariachi originals, and some classical, most of which is largely underrepresented.

Juanita brings this music to life with spiritual depth and a lifetime of dedication through live concert performances, master classes, lectures with songs, and workshops. Her catalog also includes award-winning educational CD recordings, books, and educational songbooks. Juanita’s visionary book, THE MARIACHI VOICE (Oxford University Press), offers vocal training and inspiration from all angles to build mariachi programs.

Dr. Ulloa also trains serious aspiring singers of all ages with high technical standards in commercial vocal music, many of them for competition. She teaches bel canto breathing technique based upon her own vocal training with Jane Randolph of the San Francisco Conservatory. Many of Dr. Ulloa’s singers have reached top accolades (see Bio), and she also enjoys guiding female singers in mariachi vocal development.

The songstress has often represented Mexico as a song ambassador at major international and national events. She demonstrates a perseverant vocal thirst for having audiences and voice students experience Mexican songs and direct breath support deeply and directly. Dr. Ulloa champions female singers and highlights songs by women, as many are underrepresented. She is an expert with a big heart and spiritual depth and substance, indefatigable, musically passionate; in short, a true pioneer.
